WQI-TG-002 is currently issued for Public Technical Review. It is not an approved or final WQI edition and may change as a result of review.

Public Technical Review comments may be submitted to research@wifiquality.institute using the WQI-TG-002 PTR-1 Comment Form or an equivalent structured submission. Material comments received through the review will be recorded and dispositioned before final first-edition publication.

Abstract

WQI-TG-002 defines the architecture within which WiFi Quality scores may be constructed, interpreted, reviewed and governed consistently with the WQI Body of Knowledge. It sits between the WQI assessment methodology and an implementation-specific Scoring Profile and establishes the methodological conditions that a scoring model shall satisfy when its output is represented as a WiFi Quality Score or another WQI-related composite score.

The Architecture requires WiFi Quality Scores to be derived from Assessment Findings rather than isolated measurements. It governs conceptual coverage, Findings-to-score transformation, spatial and temporal aggregation, anti-masking, treatment of material failure, missing and uncertain evidence, double counting, bounded scales, normalisation, Assessment Confidence and the separation of diagnostic, capability and certification outputs from the WiFi Quality Score.

An output represented as overall WiFi Quality is required to address material characteristics across the Technical, Operational and Human Domains. Where material conceptual coverage is absent, the output is narrowed or withheld; where evidence is limited but the relevant characteristic has been addressed, the output may be qualified according to the controlled Scoring Profile.

The Guide also establishes requirements for model documentation, calibration and sensitivity analysis, reference cases and stress testing, versioning, technical review, audit trail and reconstruction, implementation conformity and public communication. It does not prescribe one universal scoring formula, fixed commercial threshold set, certification class, vendor implementation or mandatory numerical scale.

What This Technical Guide Covers

The Guide governs the methodological relationship between Assessment Findings and score outputs while leaving implementation-specific weights, transformations and certification thresholds to controlled Scoring Profiles.

Findings-to-Score Architecture

Defines the Score Derivation Chain and requires scoring to operate on established Assessment Findings rather than silently replacing correlated Findings with a second simplified reading of raw measurements.

Conceptual Coverage and Scoring Profiles

Requires Scoring Profiles to declare their conceptual coverage and preserve the WQI Domain, Dimension and Attribute taxonomy. Overall WiFi Quality claims must address material characteristics across the Technical, Operational and Human Domains.

Spatial and Operational Aggregation

Establishes requirements for aggregation across Representative Test Locations, Site Areas, Assessment Scope and operational conditions while preserving the distinction between represented areas, observation count, materiality, breadth, persistence and recurrence.

Anti-Masking and Material Failure

Requires scoring models to prevent favourable aggregates from concealing supported material local or dimensional failures. The Architecture permits different validated non-compensatory mechanisms rather than prescribing one universal anti-masking formula.

Confidence, Missing Evidence and Comparability

Keeps Assessment Confidence conceptually separate from WiFi Quality, prevents missing or invalid evidence from being converted silently into favourable or unfavourable quality, and requires comparisons to preserve material methodological differences between assessments and Scoring Profiles.

Public Communication and Working Scores

Distinguishes final public scores from provisional Working Scores. Working Scores remain mutable and not reviewed, while final public communication must remain linked to the assessment context, applicable methodology, Scoring Profile, limitations and supporting Findings.

Calibration, Validation and Technical Review

Defines expectations for model documentation, calibration, sensitivity analysis, reference cases, stress testing and technical review so that score behaviour can be examined against declared methodological intent.

Versioning, Reconstruction and Implementation Conformity

Requires scoring outputs to remain associated with controlled versions, preserves historical score identity, supports reconstruction from retained assessment records and establishes that software implements the controlled specification rather than becoming an undocumented source of scoring policy.
